A Tarnished Halo
"For fools rush in where angels have fallen through the floorboards once already . . ."
Okay, so why am I reading this?
This is a website for portraying a fictional character. Most of it is not real. I also use the site to describe and discuss my attitudes towards writing. Those elements are as real as theories and opinions are able to be.
If something looks like a work of fiction, it probably is – but how real or fictional something looks could depend upon your background. Feel free to ask.
What should I bring to the party?
Your good faith and your in-character drama. If you enjoy writing stories, don't blush or blanch at writing gritty and socially unacceptable stories, and have a character who doesn't always try to be nice, then we should talk.
What should I avoid?
Leave your bad faith and your out-of-character drama at home. If you tip-toe around those socially unacceptable details, aren't steady, waste your time criticizing things no one is forcing you to do, cannot (at the very least) be honest about your hypocrisy, or don't always try to be nice, then we shouldn't talk.
This may be neither here nor there, but I have been forced by circumstances to conclude that there is no practical difference between actually being a flake or a hypocrite, and simply acting like one.
What are you trying to get out of this?
Intelligent, adult-oriented play with fun, well-written characters. Someone who knows the "difference" between erotica and smut, but can write either at the right time and in the context of a story. Pieter is a modern character with a fantasy backstory, but one who presents a realistic front to the world. I can come from either direction, or both at once in the right context.
I play well with and against others. Things not involving "expected" pairings are a plus, but ideas don't come to be called clichéd because they are always bad. The story is in what happens after two people meet, and not as much in the who, where, or how.
Do you have any more useful information?
Much of what I have placed here is meant to substitute for a character profile. I still use AOL, but that doesn't keep me from considering myself to be a refugee from it and its disastrous dalliance with a social networking site called Bebo. (To be fair, I liked Bebo's profile structure but hated what AOL did with it. Imagine that – AOL making bad business decisions.)
This site represents my effort to unify all of my character information and my writing information one one site. We'll see how it goes. I also broke down and created a page on F-List because, a) reliable sources told me good things – many of which I no longer hold to be true but oh well, b) I could literally see AOL and Bebo falling apart, and c) I write smut anyway, so why not? My profile there might also contain information that will interest you, so have a look. (The link should open in a new page.)
Anything else?
This is acting. I am an INTJ/ISTJ pretending to be an ENFP/ESFP. Do us both a favor, and don't confuse me with my character.
If you've read the site, then you probably understand my interest in creating scenes with other supernaturals. The scenes can focus on keeping up the masquerade in a modern world, or they can take a more historical and multi-faceted approach. The thing to remember: discovery is far sexier than omniscience.
It should probably go without saying, but I don't mean for anything about this characterization to offend anyone's particular belief system. It's make-believe.
What you get out of this should equal what you put into it. As it is with all things, your mileage may vary.
If you use AOL or AIM, then feel free to send constructive questions or comments through e-mail or via Instant Message. I marginally prefer e-mail, because sometimes AIM loses messages. If you use F-List, then feel free to use Notes or Private Messages. In general, the easiest way to find out if I am online is to send an Instant Message of some sort.
