A Tarnished Halo
"For fools rush in where angels have fallen through the floorboards once already . . ."
Traditionally, I've stayed out of the business of creating characters for other people. On the whole, I've always viewed character choice as a matter of personal taste. Maybe I'm projecting just a bit, but generally I've had difficulty seeing how anyone could connect with a character that someone else made.
Still, I've had reasons to rethink this philosophy over time. In the past, I've had people tell me I should say more about the things I think would work with a character or with a scene, since I seem to say so much about the things I don't think work. (You'll have to believe me when I say that I do try, even if I am not always successful.) More recently, I've had people make "blank-slate" offers centering on the premise that I'd be writing something with them I hadn't ever written but had always wanted to write.
While coming up with something to fill a premise that wide is still a challenge, I didn't think I could do much worse than to add some "currency" to the role-play market in a way that would benefit me personally.
These are only sketches. The details are negotiable, and I hope people who read these will feel comfortable adding their own personal slants to any character they go on to play with me. With that said, I'm not taking the time here to discuss what I might like or want for someone to come along and offer the exact opposite. There's open-mindedness, and then there's having your brain fall out of your head. I prefer not to be that open-minded.
One more thing: I will likely agree with whatever slant you think I've put on the sketches I've made, if only to put you at ease for thinking the same thing, or to make light of the fact that anyone might dare to call me out for it. I'm not ashamed of what I happen to enjoy, and you shouldn't be either. If we happen to enjoy any of the same things, then that's just a bonus.
So read on – you can access the character sketches via the pull-down menu – and let's discuss.
